John,
Tom McClintock narrowly won this seat in 2008, when the 4th district was about 20% more Republican than it is today. After hundreds of thousands of votes were reported on election night, the margin separating McClintock and his Democratic challenger was just a few hundred votes. The election was not decided until weeks later -- after a protracted effort to ensure every legal vote was counted.
As we anticipate another close election again in 2020, we must be prepared to do this critical election protection work once again and bring home a victory for Brynne.
We've worked too hard and come too far to leave anything to chance. And this will require resources for staff and legal support across all ten counties in our district. This work could be the difference between winning and losing.
So, I must ask if you can pitch in $5 or anything you can to support our 2020 Election Protection efforts.

Public health considerations related to COVID-19 have changed so many aspects of American life -- including how candidates campaign and how voters will cast their ballots in this election.
Sadly, some politicians have sought to put their thumb on the scale by attacking mail-in voting, undermining the postal service, limiting access to polling stations, or failing to provide additional aid to help local governments we rely on to count votes.
California is expecting record turnout across the state. And while we have great confidence in our local county elections officials to do the important work ahead, we must also prepare for any contingencies.
That's why we are asking you to pitch in $5, $10, or $25, or whatever you can afford to help us ensure that EVERY vote is counted fairly and accurately no matter what Tom says.

Thank you in advance for pitching in to protect the vote in what promises to be a very close election.
Sincerely,
