PFAW Member, Undoubtedly your inbox is getting inundated with messages urging you to go vote, and while that call to action is of paramount importance today, I want to take a moment to say thank you for all your efforts throughout the Trump administration and most recently during the election season. 2020 has indeed been a challenging year for so many and, despite the obstacles we’re facing, People For members like you have stepped up in significant ways. Thousands of People For members volunteered by contacting MILLIONS of voters in battleground states across the country. In addition to plugging in with our in-house voter contact programs, People For members heavily participated in unprecedented partnerships to get out the vote with phone calls, text messages, and letters. Instead of our traditional hybrid of virtual and on-the-ground canvassing efforts, the pandemic required us to take most of it online, but People For members quickly adapted and have been some of the strongest volunteers among our many partnerships this year, including Turnout 2020 (a massive nationwide phone banking operation), Vote From Home 2020 (to help voters successfully cast their votes by mail earlier in the cycle), Vote FWD (which has sent 15 million handwritten letters to swing state voters), Pearl Jam Votes, Vote Tripler, and more. And because of the generosity of our members, PFAW’s electoral programs like the Next Up Victory Fund, which supports young, diverse candidates for state and local office under age 40, and Latinos Vote! are stronger than ever before: endorsing hundreds of candidates, holding a virtual bus tour with celebrities and progressive movement icon (and PFAW board member) Dolores Huerta, and putting up six-figure English and Spanish ad buys on almost every conceivable medium (digital, radio, TV, streaming services, etc.) in target states all across the country, including Nevada, Wisconsin, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, and Georgia. People For also premiered a new campaign, “ENOUGH of Trump” to galvanize the creative arts community to inspire voters of all ages in turning out to vote this year. Engaging with some of the country’s most renowned artists like Ed Ruscha, Carrie Mae Weems, Shepard Fairey, Hank Willis Thomas, Alyson Shotz, Latoya Ruby Frazier (and more!), the campaign has reached millions across the country and has been covered in major media outlets, including The New York Times, Forbes, and The Guardian. People For had some of the artwork installed on iconic buildings, used in more than 50 billboards across 6 presidential battleground states, and more, while also launching an online store where some of the artwork is featured on merchandise available to purchase. We’ve also fought hard to protect our courts from a Far Right takeover by Senate Republicans, fighting tirelessly to block Trump’s judicial nominees, including the most recent fight against Amy Coney Barrett. Our “Vote the Courts” campaign to hold Senate Republicans accountable for their votes to confirm Trump’s nominees has engaged thousands of voters and activists in senate battleground states that has featured press events, digital ads, town halls, and petition deliveries challenging them for supporting judges who will undermine their access to health care and other core civil and human rights. Our separate nonpartisan affiliate People For the American Way Foundation launched a new initiative this year to combat ongoing voter suppression efforts targeted at the Black community, called Defend the Black Vote. To date, the program has smashed our original goals and has so far sent more than 10 million text messages to over 2.3 million Black male voters ages 18-50 in order to help them get registered and make a plan to vote. Suffice it to say People For members always step up to do the work of saving our democracy and ensuring that the American Way is strengthened for all. So again, a heartfelt THANK YOU from everyone here at People For the American Way. Your tireless commitment to freedom, equality, and justice for all truly shows and we couldn’t do it without you. Now, go vote if you haven’t already, volunteer to help GOTV, and stay tuned for more ways to engage. Kevin Harris
