Hi friend --
A week ago, NPR reported that military officials “want to maintain their apolitical stance, and not get involved in partisan politics, saying uniformed soldiers at the polls would lead to charges the military favors one candidate over another.”
But we CANNOT be reassured by that, because as POLITICO reported: “Defense Secretary Mark Esper stopped short of committing to keep troops away from polling stations [on Election Day], prompting Democratic lawmakers to call on the Pentagon chief to vow that the military won’t be used to influence the election.”
Friend -- the polls don’t close for several hours. Donald Trump already threatened to deploy the military against peaceful protesters earlier this year, and sending out troops now to aid his army of “poll watchers” is a terrifying reality we must prepare for.
We need to remind our government that it’s we the people who have the power. It’s our votes that will determine the future of this country, not the president or his intimidation tactics. Help us speak out to defend the sanctity of this election from Donald Trump’s worst impulses. Tell us NOW, before it’s too late:
Do you want U.S. troops watching polling places?
