Plus, hello to new board members! Morningside Center NEWSLETTER Dear Morningside Center friends, We send you our warm thoughts and best wishes on this momentous day. This is an important but also difficult moment for many young people. In this issue, we share a series of Election Week lessons and guidelines to support and engage students. Links below! Plus, we introduce you to two amazing education leaders who have just joined Morningside Center's board of directors. Morningside Center's Board Expands We are excited to announce that this fall, we welcomed two giants in the field of education to our board: Dr. Fred Frelow and Robert Kim, JD. Fred Frelow is a former public school teacher, a school administrator, and a leader in philanthropy specializing in school finance and innovative professional development strategies. At both the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, Fred’s leadership advanced racial and fiscal equity throughout our nation’s public schools. He is kind, caring, and has deep insights about teaching and learning. We are thrilled that he has joined our team! Robert Kim also adds enormous educational experience to our board. A former ACLU attorney, Bob advised thousands of educators on civil rights and school climate issues in public schools, and worked in the U.S. Department of Education under President Obama to eliminate punitive discipline policies. He’s also a former curriculum writer and teacher trainer who has authored materials to counter LGBTQI bullying and other forms of bullying and harassment in schools. Most recently, he authored Elevating Equity and Justice: Ten U.S. Supreme Court Cases Every Teacher Should Know. It is with sadness that we say goodbye and THANK YOU to outgoing board member Betsy Bousquette. She has helped guide and support our organization for over a decade – and made us a better and stronger team. New on TeachableMoment Election Week 2020: Conversation Guidelines.
