Dear Friends and Supporters,

As I wake up on this Election Day, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for rising to the moment, and giving it your all — whether it was calling, texting, knocking, writing, or sending money to help me get our voters out today. I feel the weight of the stress and division in this country and should I be victorious, hope to be a positive force in a period of rebuilding and healing our country.

I decided to run for Congress for two reasons. First, given my experience of helping our most vulnerable neighbors overcome the systemic barriers that poverty creates, I felt a responsibility to do whatever it takes to break down those barriers. And second, like so many of us, I was frustrated by the divisiveness and dysfunction that seems to paralyze Washington, making progress seem almost impossible.

I will be honest, while I am proud to have been true to my commitment to work across the aisle, create relationships, and roll up my sleeves to help make progress, so much more can be done. I still remain frustrated, like many of us. And I am disappointed that our leaders were unable or unwilling to reach a compromise that would have provided a lifeline to millions of Americans and thousands of Nevadans who are suffering because of this pandemic. I had tried to use my voice to fight for a deal, but it came up short. Much more work needs to be done.

When people feel loss or defeat, as I did when it became obvious that a deal remained elusive, we can react in one of two ways. To walk away -- or to learn from our defeat, pick ourselves up, and overcome. I think you all know where I will always fall.

I believe today is a referendum on our Democracy. I believe that Americans, especially young Americans, have come out in record numbers to preserve the one thing that has made America great — that all of us, regardless of who we are, the religion we practice, the color of our skin, or where we live, have a chance to live in freedom and have equal access to opportunity.

I am hopeful that the voters of Congressional District 3 will recognize, despite the negative campaign, that I will continue to work with intent, honesty, and diligence to help deliver the promise that America has given me, but which still remains elusive to so many. I thank you for your belief in me, and feel the weight of the responsibility of your trust.

I want to take a moment to thank my incredible staff, both official and campaign. It fills me with satisfaction when people approach me and tell me that I was the only office to return their calls, or when someone reaches out to thank me for the help we provided. My campaign staff fought a tough race under incredibly tough campaign conditions. I am grateful that they were nimble, innovative, but mostly, committed to creating a new future for our country. My duty to our country is a duty to the next generation and I am so proud that my office is an incubator for our next generation of leaders. In fact, they all have already begun that journey.

Whatever the outcome of the election today, I hope we will all take an honest assessment of what we can do, personally, to unite our country, turn the temperature down, and get to the tough work of making sure that the millions of Americans who are struggling can get back on their feet.

Thank you,

Susie
