FINAL DAY to Say NO to the Labor Department's License to Discriminate
|
|
Today is the deadline to submit public comments for the U.S. Department of Labor’s proposed rule to undo nondiscrimination protections for federal contractors. Have you sent your message yet?
In case you missed it, this new proposed rule would allow pretty much any federal contractor to define itself as religious and engage in discriminatory behavior under the guise of religious freedom. One-fifth of the American workforce would be affected by this, and your tax dollars would be used to fund it. These employees could find themselves at risk for discrimination for any number of things, including being transgender, being married to someone of the same gender, using birth control, or failing some other “religious” litmus test.
Stop and think about it: This is a major betrayal of workers and the right to be free from discrimination on the job. The office that proposed this rule—called the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs—specifically exists to “protect workers, promote diversity and enforce the law.” Its proposed rule would open the door to taxpayer-funded discrimination against the very people it’s supposed to protect.
Don’t stand by and let it happen! These public comment periods are a crucial opportunity to make our voices heard by the government agencies that have so much of an impact on our lives. Use this day—the final day—to speak up for the workers whose rights are on the line.
Thank you for getting involved!
