,

As we near the finish line of an election season unlike any other, I want to remind you that this election is too important for anyone to sit on the sidelines. The fate of our democracy is on the line, and our civil rights hang in the balance. As we go to the ballot box to decide the leaders who will deal with our ongoing public health crisis, economic downturn and racial reckoning, we are reminded of the sacrifices of past and present leaders who fought to expand the right to vote so that today we may collectively decide the future of our nation. Now, it is both our right and our duty to make sure every single voice is heard.

Despite inequalities in ballot access and election protections across the country, we are thrilled by record voter turnout in dozens of states, especially in Deep South states with early absentee and in-person voting opportunities. Already this year, almost 100 million voters have displayed incredible resolve in ensuring their vote is counted, and we hope you will join them.

If you haven’t voted yet, there are two ways you can vote today. In many states, if you have an absentee or mail-in ballot available, you can complete it and deliver it to a drop box or election official today. If not, please choose an in-person voting option to cast your ballot.

Here are some important guidelines for voting today:

* Please follow all COVID-19 safety requirements. If you’re able to vote via drop box, we encourage you to do so.
* Some states don’t allow voters to take or post photos of their completed ballots. You can check whether your state allows “ballot selfies” here. <[link removed]>
* If you or anyone you know needs immediate assistance voting, or experiences words or actions that make you feel nervous at your polling place, please call the national, nonpartisan Election Protection hotline <[link removed]> at 866-OUR-VOTE.
* If you have additional details or stories to share about a voting experience, please call our hotline at 877-358-0028.

We want to hear about your voting experience — the good and the bad. You can share your voting experience with us by sharing your photos with us on social media (Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) and tagging us at @splcenter and/or using the hashtags #WeVote and #WhyIVote, emailing your photos to us at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> , or submitting them through our website <[link removed]>.

If you have already voted or will be voting today, thank you sincerely for participating in our democracy when so much is at stake.

Thank you,

Nancy Abudu, Deputy Legal Director for Voting Rights
P.S. Turnout in Georgia has been unbelievable this year — that’s why we’re recruiting extra SPLC volunteers to keep calling Georgians and urge every voter to get to the polls TODAY. Register here <[link removed]> to start calling!
