We are thrilled to share that our 2019 Annual Report is now live - celebrating 50 years of progress in the LGBTQI2S community! This past 2019 was a momentous year, in that it marked the 50 year anniversary of Canada's landmark legislation in 1969 to partially decriminalize homosexuality nationwide. Fifty years later, we reflect on how far we've come, but also acknowledge the continued impacts of this history within our community. Canada owns a legacy of state-sponsored discrimination against LGBTQI2S communities. This continues to present as entrenched homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and the suppression of Two-Spirit Indigenous Peoples. This history of state suppression did not cease in 1969, and the LGBTQI2S community continues to fight for respect, equity, and inclusion across Canada. We've come a long way in the last 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50 years as we continue to pursue human rights and inclusion for all LGBTQI2S people. |
