It's Election Day. If you haven't yet voted, this is your last chance to make sure your voice is heard, so wherever you live and whoever you support, be sure to get out to the polls today. [link removed] Click here to find out who labor supports.

"Today is our day," said David Stephen, the Metro Washington Council's Political Director. "We have a great opportunity to vote for pro-labor candidates up and down the ballot. Let's not take anything for granted. And remember, local elections are just as important as electing Joe Biden to be the next president. Don't believe the polls. Let's work until the very last minute to WIN!"

Laborers say Silver Line "over budget, late and defective"
"Would you buy a newly constructed house that had cracks in its concrete foundation? What if the builder told you that the cracks were no problem, you just needed to apply three coats of silane to the concrete every seven years and you should be fine? This is essentially the deal being offered to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), which has been charged with building Phase 2 of the Silver Line," [link removed] writes Dennis L. Martire in The Washington Post. Martire was on the MWAA Board during the procurement of Silver Line Phase 2, and is vice president and Mid-Atlantic regional manager of the Laborers' International Union of North America. He points out that local politicians bullied MWAA into abandoning its plan to use union labor on the project, which he says is now over budget, late and defective. "The public should be outraged at how this project has been mismanaged," says Martire.
