Today is Election Day. And we need every eligible Latina to vote, if you have not voted already. Be ready with your plan of what time you are going to vote, wear your mask, bring your sanitizer, and even a snack and bottle of water. It will be up to us to change the course of history in America and WE must do it with our vote!
We have fought for voting rights since 1929 and will continue to do so today. As the leaders of this organization, you all have one thing in common. That is your profound love and admiration for the women in your life. What other Latino organization has the historical impact of LULAC at the local, state, and federal level?
I would say none.
We have Latinas as past national presidents, a designated VP of Women, and women represented on our national board and as Council Presidents. But we know we can do more. It is time to harness the leadership we are born with and equip more Latinas with the skills, network, and know-how to run for office, serve in the C-suite level of corporations, government, private and public boards and commissions, and create the pipeline at scale. But for today, let’s focus on voting and elevating our collective voice and power.
Our women, “the heart of the family”, are what this country needs in order to bring balance and peace to every level of our government. We are setting a goal to build a network of 1 million Latinas across the 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington DC through One Million Latinas Strong. Our purpose is to harness our collective power nationally and build a movement and network that seeks to create more equity in our communities for us, our families, and our children.
And we know this can be done because grassroots building and mobilizing is what we do. Our goal is to build a network of grassroots leaders who will commit to passing on their knowledge, serve on boards and commission, and run for office. When we empower women, we empower the world.
I know you have these women in your family, community, and networks. Please encourage them to visit OneMillionLatinasStrong.org and join this movement today. Share your voting picture on Facebook and Twitter and tag us to uplift on social media. #LatinaEmpowerment #OneMillionLatinasStrong #LULACVota
