Our generations' values are under attack.

Today is the last day to tell the U.S. Department of Labor not to give federal contractors a license to discriminate. Thousands have submitted public comments. Will you join them?

In case you missed it, Trump's Labor Department proposed a rule that would allow pretty much any federal contractor to define itself as religious and engage in discriminatory behavior under the guise of religious freedom.

License to be ourselves and to live our own values is such a part of what makes our generations tick and should be available to all of us, free from government interference. The fact that this administration is encouraging employers to invoke religious freedom in order to rob our community members of their jobs is deeply wrong. Don't let 1 in 5 American workers lose protections to serve this narrow political agenda!

Your voice needs to be heard on this!

Generation Progress

John,

Once again, the Trump administration is attacking young people's rights under the flimsy guise of religious freedom—and we only have one week to act. As the largest and most diverse generations America has ever seen, this is personal to us.

One of former President Barack Obama's signature achievements was extending employment protections for federal contractors so that LGBTQ people could go to work with less fear of discrimination. Along with existing protections on the basis of things like race, sex, and religion, these policies reach across a huge segment of the U.S. economy: 22% of Americans work for a federal contractor, so millions of people are protected from discrimination on the job.

The latest proposed rule from the Trump's Department of Labor would gut these protections, allowing federal contractors to discriminate against their employees as long as they assert a religious reason for doing so. That is just plain wrong and flies in the face of our values. We have to stop them.

If you think this is appalling, if you are stunned that this can still happen in America, click this link and use our partner's simple form to send a public comment to the Labor Department.

TAKE ACTION

The proposed rule would allow pretty much any federal contractor to define itself as religious and use exemptions to discriminate. Here are just a few examples of what they’d be able to do:

  • Fire a woman who is pregnant and unmarried
  • Fire an employee who marries someone of the same sex, or deny health benefits to their partner
  • Refuse to allow transgender employees to dress and utilize facilities consistent with their gender identity
  • Refuse to interview someone who isn't a member of the employer's religion

We know this is just plain wrong. And we have to stop them.

The Trump administration might think they can get away with this—and use our taxpayer dollars to do it—but they haven't heard the end of this.

They've only given us till September 16 to submit public comments. Don't put it off—make your voice heard right now!

Sincerely,

Charlotte Hancock
