Dear , As I near the finish line of my campaign to serve as the next Congressman for the First Congressional District of Texas, in my lifelong home of East Texas, I would like to thank everyone who helped to get me to this point. This would have been impossible without the hardest working, yet very small, staff that have devoted the last year of their lives to this effort. Our volunteers, both from in-district and across this great country, have been phenomenal. Last, but certainly not least, this would have been impossible without our great donors from all 50 of our United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and American military members, both in-country and abroad. In all, almost 25,000 individual donors have contributed nearly $700,000 towards this effort, for an average contribution of less than $28. To each of you, I send you a very heartfelt "Thank You!" This campaign was started by the urging of my late wife, Karla. She had tried to get me to run against Louie Gohmert for years, but I kept declining for various reasons. It wasn't until Louie totally disrespected highly decorated Vietnam veteran Robert Mueller during the House Judiciary Committee hearing over impeachment, that she asked me to run again, only this time from the grave. Within seconds, I was assembling a team to begin this run. If you will allow me, I would like to tell you a little bit about my wonderful wife of about 30 years. Although she was small in stature (5'4" on a good day), she had the heart of an angel and the determination of a lion. She would drop everything to help someone in need, all the while chewing on everyone else's ass who didn't offer to help. She believed that everyone should have a voice and should exercise their right to make it heard. She was the champion of many worthy causes and the killer of many that weren't. While she had her fair share of foes, primarily due to her opposition of their flawed ideas, she loved everybody. In 30 years, I never heard her ever mention the word "hate" associated with another human being. She just preferred to pray for them. While we weren't the real churchgoers, we both held strong beliefs and did our best to pass them on to our children. One thing that Karla was very passionate about was voting. Other than the charity that she formed 10 years ago, Karla's Joy, which, to date, has helped almost 700 abused and battered women and their children get a new start on life, she felt voting was a right and the duty of every American to participate in. To her, she didn't really care who you voted for (unless I was on the ballot), it was all about the process. She wanted everyone to vote so that the result would reflect the true feelings of the public. It didn't matter if it was a local school issue or a federal election, she was determined to rally people to the polls. Looking down from Heaven, I know she is very happy with what she is seeing, not only in our local district, but all over the country. With that being said, I know that she is still concerned. If she were here today, she would be mobilizing everybody that she could to make sure the momentum continues all the way through tomorrow night! Now, here's where it gets kinda weird. Tomorrow, November 3rd is my Angel's 59th birthday. For the past 20 years, including the last 3+ since she's been gone, I have bought her flowers every week. While she hardly asked for anything, she loved fresh flowers. Some weeks throughout those years, particularly when our business was slow and/or our bills were many, a vendor might have to wait for payment because the flowers always came first. Flower day was (is) usually Sunday or Monday. This week, flower day will be special and will be on Tuesday. I will be at our little country cemetery, Smyrna Cemetery, just East of Winnsboro, Texas, and watch the sunrise with her. On such a pivotal day for the future of our country, I want to start that day with her, my true champion of humanity. I want to pray with her for support and for God's guidance and healing for that day. After my special time with her, I plan to spend the remainder of my day visiting polling locations in the rest of the district that I didn't get to during early voting, thanking the poll workers for giving their precious time to help make our democracy work. The end of the day will be spent fixing dinner for my two sons and daughters-in-law, some of our "adopted" daughters that we never had (who mean the world to me as if they were my own), and whoever else shows up. Hopefully, my race will be decided by 11:00 pm. If not, when I wake up for the next day at 5:30 am, I guess I'll find out how we did! I have one final ask of all of you, regardless of where you live. On behalf of myself and my precious Angel, Karla, if you haven't yet voted, please do so Tuesday. If you've already voted, get on the phone and make sure that every family member you have gets out and votes. After that, contact all of your friends and make sure that they go vote. Above all, make yourself available to take people to the polls that need a ride to go vote. In other words, do everything in your power to make sure that everyone's voice is heard so that, without a doubt, the results will be so overwhelming that no court will listen to any bullshit from this administration, or any of its enablers, who try to contest the outcome! Once again, thank all of you for everything that you have done this past year to get my campaign to this point. Hopefully, with your continued help and support, Tuesday night will mark the beginning of the long road to recovery for our great country! God bless each one of you and, through his amazing grace, may God Bless America! Hank |
