U.S. imprisonment rate at its lowest since 1995 [ [link removed] ]
The combined state and federal imprisonment rate of 419 sentenced prisoners per 100,000 U.S. residents in 2019 was the lowest imprisonment rate since 1995, the Bureau of Justice Statistics announced today. The imprisonment rate in 2019 marked a 17% decrease from 2009and a 3% decrease from 2018, and it marked the 11th consecutive annual decrease. The imprisonment ratethe portion of U.S. residents who are in prisonis based on prisoners sentenced to more than one year.

This report is the seventeenth in a series that began in 1998. It provides statistics on demographic characteristics, most serious offense, and conviction status of the tribal inmate population, and also describes facility characteristics, including bed space and staffing. This report supports the mandate established by the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010.

Announcements
*UCR data tool to be replaced*
The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data tool [ [link removed] ] has been replaced by the FBIs Crime Data Explorer (CDE). Effective Friday, November 6, 2020, the UCR data tool will no longer be available and visitors will be automatically forwarded to the CDE. Please update your bookmarks accordingly.
The CDE is an interactive tool that presents charts and graphs that break down data in a variety of ways.The CDE also offers an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows developers to make interactive applications to share large amounts of data in meaningful ways.Users of the API will be able to access UCR data from 1979 to the current publication.UCR data can also be found in the Crime in the United States publications [ [link removed] ].
*New grants and payment management systems now available [ [link removed] ]*
On October 15, 2020, the Department of Justice grant-making componentsthe Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW)transitioned to the Justice Grants System (JustGrants) for all grant management activities, and the Automated Standard Application for Payments (ASAP) system for grant payments.
