NEWS FROM POWER TO DECIDE
It’s Nearly Thanks, Birth Control Day
On November 18, the nation celebrates #ThxBirthControl Day, 24-hours dedicated to acknowledging all the wonderful things birth control makes possible. To help you celebrate the day, we've created an online toolkit—including suggested social media language, new merchandise, and our newest gifs. You can access it here.
You can also get ready for Thanks, Birth Control day by spreading the word among friends and professional networks, buying #ThxBirthControl merchandise in our store, and making a tax-deductible donation.
One Key Question Certification Training, Now Offered Online!

The One Key Question Certification Training takes 4-6 hours and can be taken at any time, from any location, and covers topics such as reproductive well-being, unconscious bias in family planning, and how to successfully implement the program.

Updates to our Advancing Contraceptive Access Toolkit
Earlier this year, we launched a toolkit designed to help elected officials, public health officials, and advocates in their efforts to enact key state-level policies to improve access to contraception. The toolkit focuses on three policies: insurance coverage for an extended supply of contraception, pharmacist prescribing of contraception, and protecting contraceptive coverage in health insurance. The latest additions to the toolkit include an infographic on the importance of having access to the full range of birth control methods as well as state contraceptive landscape fact sheets for Utah, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
RWB Team: Syracuse, New York
Earlier this year, we selected 8 teams from across the US to partner with us in implementing our reproductive well-being work within their communities. Reproductive well-being means that all people have the information, services, and support they need to have control over their bodies and to make their own decisions related to sexuality and reproduction throughout their lives.
A long history of racist policies, including redlining, has led to disinvestment in Syracuse, New York. The city is ranked number one in the country for rate of concentrated poverty among Black and Latino people, and fifth for child poverty. However, the community is deeply committed to turning this narrative around and embracing dialogue and new policies around race and equity.
The Allyn Family Foundation is partnering with the Family Planning Service of Syracuse and the Center for Court Innovation to advance reproductive well-being for youth and families in Syracuse.
Join Bedsider Providers
If you’re a provider, check out the first in a new series on Bedsider Providers highlighting the lived experiences of those getting sexual and reproductive health care with a focus on people of color. Articles in this series allow sexual and reproductive health care providers to see through a patient’s perspective how their entire interaction with the health care system impacts their reproductive well-being.
Bedsider Providers is committed to strengthening health care providers ability to provide high-quality, culturally responsive sexual and reproductive care that meets patients where they are. That commitment includes celebrating all that birth control has to offer, but it also includes shining a light on some of the harsher realities, such as inequities in health care. If you’re not already, sign up to join the Bedsider Provider Network.
