Final Call for Counter-Recruitment in the Schools
|
Are you a teacher, or do you know one? Then we have a request for you! We are looking for teachers willing to have a speaker come talk about options other than joining the military. As I'm sure you all know, the US military often recruits low-income students who don't see any better options for their life. We're looking to show them the harms of the military and what they could do instead. If that is something you'd like to see in your classroom, please fill out this form.

The Political Education Working Group finished their discussion of Angela Davis's Are Prisons Obsolete last Monday. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the discussion! A week and a day from today (Monday the 23rd) they will begin reading The People's Republic of Walmart by Leigh Phillips and Michael Wozroski. It's about how large, multinational corporations essentially function as planned economies already, only ones that work for the capitalists. Read the book and join us for a discussion on how we can democratize them and make the economy work for the people!
Thursday was our monthly general meeting! Our membership secretary Carlos opened us with a moving tribute to Salvador Allende, the democratically elected socialist president of Chile that was ousted in a CIA-bakced coup 76 years ago on September 11, 1973. Thank you for that Carlos! We later broke into groups to discuss ways we can support member and endorsed candidate Ashton Woods in his campaign for City Council through phone banking, block walks, and fundraising. Finally, we opened up nominations for two positions on our Steering Committee- one of the co-chairs (currently held by Will Lira) and the Internal Secretary (currently held by Dan Derozier). If you would like to nominate yourself or anyone else, please send an email to [email protected]! Nominations close at the beginning of next month's general meeting, when elections will be
held. Hope to see y'all there!
