Hi friend --
Election Day isn't until tomorrow. But last week, Trump began prematurely declaring victory via Facebook ads -- which is supposed to be against the company's rules.
[In a scene reminiscent of Teletubbies, Donald Trump's face is superimposed on a rising sun with his face also on a hummingbird. There are red flowers on the lawn with copies of a different face.] >> [link removed]
As CNBC reports: "A video in the ad shows the president's face superimposed on a sun, with a voiceover pulled from various sources. 'It's morning in America. Donald J. Trump is still president of the United States,' the video says. Flowers rise from the ground and open to faces, who scream, 'NOOOO!' as the smiling president, now also a hummingbird, flits around."
This is absurd. We hoped that Big Tech had learned their lesson from 2016 -- that giving free rein to whoever wants to spew lies destroys our democracy and puts countless lives at risk -- but clearly that's not the case. We can't afford to allow Facebook and others to keep getting away with such egregious and negligent missteps regarding their so-called 'free speech' policies.
Social media companies, who make so much money from our data, need to take action NOW to defend the truth. If they don't, the army of fake news spreaders could turn the tides of this race for Trump now and tomorrow. We want a referendum from the people so we can take it to Big Tech and demand change before it's too late -- so please, tell us now:
Do you stand against Big Tech spreading voter misinformation?
