John, it’s been a long, long four years.
I remember where I was, and how I felt, on November 8, 2016. I’m sure you do, too. I was at the Burbank Bar and Grill with supporters as we watched the results trickle in.
We sat in stunned disbelief. Disbelief that our nation could have elected such an unethical, immoral and corrupt human being to the highest office in the land. Deep concern about the harm to our nation and what was to come.
But the next day, we woke up determined. And since that fateful night, you have led the way. You marched and raised your voices in the streets, you protested Trump’s unethical and, yes, unlawful actions, and you mobilized and scored victory after victory.
We were able to flip the House in 2018, and we didn’t stop there. We passed hundreds of progressive bills to protect our healthcare, to help address climate change, to end the scourge of gun violence, and stop the corruption of Trump’s Administration.
We all know what another four years of Donald Trump will do to the soul of this country, the rule of law, and our very democracy itself. Already, Trump is signaling he won't accept the results. Trump will be unbound, having faced little or no resistance from his own party, and we know he will wreak even more havoc.
We can’t let that happen. We just can’t.
You fought back every single time. And I’ll say this: it’s worked. Trump and his enablers have heard your voice, have seen your power, and they are afraid. Afraid of your power.
They’re afraid that we’ll flip the Senate and not only reverse all of the damage they’ve wrought, but make progress that will be irreversible on healthcare, on climate change, on voting rights, on the economy, on COVID-19, and on our most basic civil rights.
That’s why I’m running for re-election — to continue the fight we began four years ago, to right the wrongs, and to make real, lasting progress. For you. For our families. For our democracy.
And with your help over the next two days, I’m confident we can do it. I’m confident that we can beat Donald Trump once and for all and show the world he was a one-term nightmare.
I’m confident that we can protect the House, flip the Senate, and show those who enable Trump’s worst actions that their names will be tied to his with a cord of steel and for all of history.
