NAFCU's award-winning advocacy team is readying its post-election analysis and strategy ahead of tomorrow's election to ensure newly-elected members are informed of credit unions' priorities. There are no committee hearings or votes scheduled in the House and Senate this week; the chambers are set to return to session next week.


NAFCU summarizes expiring reg relief in new resource [ [link removed] ]
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, credit unions across the country have stepped up to meet the needs of more than 121 million Americans. As part of the NAFCU's ongoing commitment to help credit unions navigate the changing regulatory and legislative environments, the association has released a new resource outlining the expiration dates of several pandemic-related relief measures.


CFPB finalizes rule on debt collection [ [link removed] ]
The CFPB Friday issued a final rulemaking related to debt collection, which heeded several concerns NAFCU had flagged for the bureau in its comments on the proposal. Of note, the rule limits the definition of a &quot;debt collector&quot; under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) to third-party debt collectors and does not encompass first-party collectors or creditors.






Fed further expands Main Street Lending Program to support small biz [ [link removed] ]
The Federal Reserve Friday further adjusted the terms of its Main Street Lending Program &quot;to better target support to smaller businesses that employ millions of workers and are facing continued revenue shortfalls due to the pandemic.&quot;


NAFCU's Demangone: New NAFCU network strengthens industry leadership [ [link removed] ]
In a new episode of CUbroadcast, NAFCU Executive Vice President and COO Anthony Demangone discussed the association's newly launched CEO Network and the benefits it provides credit union CEOs.


NCUA to host webinar on PALs, short-term lending Nov. 16 [ [link removed] ]
The NCUA will host an upcoming webinar on payday alternative loans (PALs) and short-term lending to provide credit unions with valuable advice and an update on the agency’s commitment to expand the availability of safe and affordable credit to meet the needs of diverse and underserved communities. In addition, the webinar will serve as part of the NCUA’s recently announced financial inclusion initiative, Advancing Communities through Credit, Education, Stability, and Support (ACCESS).


NAFCU Journal highlights CUs embracing change, NCUA exams, NAFCU Annual Award winners, more [ [link removed] ]
The November-December edition of The NAFCU Journal is now available online and includes an in-depth feature on how credit union leaders have worked to make use of lessons learned amid the coronavirus pandemic to move the industry forward. Also included in the latest edition is a look into virtual NCUA exams and the work done by credit unions to serve their military members.


NCUA bans 1 from future work in FIs [ [link removed] ]
The NCUA in October issued one prohibition notice, prohibiting an individual previously associated with credit unions from any future participation in the affairs of a federally-insured financial institution.
