I had food poisoning this week and was down for the count for four days. (It's why I skipped a few days posting and emailing - sorry about that!) Anyway, I ended up hacking together a homemade electrolyte drink out of stuff I had lying around the apartment and it's so easy that I wanted
to share it with you guys.
At its most basic, an electrolyte drink is very simple.
1 tsp of salt, 2 tbsp of sugar, and a quart (or liter) of water.
That's it.
Keep this in mind if you have a situation where someone is likely to become dehydrated because of illness or heat - you don't need the fancy storebought stuff and pretty much everyone possesses these ingredients.
This is also important to me because I'm mobile. I travel full time so I like little hacks that allow me to meet my needs even in unfamiliar surroundings. You can cobble it together at a hotel, a gas station, or a fast-food restaurant with the little packets - sugar packets are 1 tsp so you'd need 6 of them, and 12 salt packets make a teaspoon.
You can throw in anything you want for flavor - a slice of lemon, lime, or orange, or a squirt from one of those squeezy bottles. You can even use unsweetened Koolaid or another drink mix for a finicky person.
I hope you guys are having a good weekend!
