Hi there,

Kayla Moore, a Black transgender woman, was killed on her own bed by Berkeley police, after being falsely accused of having an outstanding warrant. Over the last few weeks, I've gotten to know Kayla's sister Maria, and dived deeply into her sister's case. And what I found was disturbing-- violations of Berkeley's use of force police, a botched court opinion, and a years-long fight by a family still grieving over their daughter's death against a city that refuses to deliver justice.

We are just 2 days from Election Day. And so much is at stake: climate justice, housing reform, and an end to corporate money in politics. But there are few with more hinging on this election than the Moore family. For years, they have re-lived the trauma of their daughter's death because of our current city government's refusal to provide transparency and accountability.

When we win, I have committed to work closely with the Moore family to see that justice is done, and that reforms are made to ensure that deaths like these never occur again. But to achieve this, we need your support.

Can you share this blog with a friend, and ask for their vote?

Best,

Wayne
