The More You Know

Precaution = Prevention

Alaskans are urged to exercise caution and take the following steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

·    Get tested if you feel sick at all. Stay home and isolate; don’t be around others if
you are not feeling well.
·    If you test positive, let close contacts know so they can protect others.
·    Quarantine for a full 14 days if you are a known close contact to a person with
COVID.
·    Consider getting tested 5-14 days after any possible exposure.
·    Avoid the 3 C's: Crowded settings, close contacts and confined spaces. Keep your
contacts limited and your social circles small.
·    Do the 3 W's: Wear a mask, Watch your distance and Wash your hands.
Be Careful Out There

Have you had your Flu shot this year?

Public health exerts are stressing the importance of getting a flu shot this year.

·    The State of Alaska has enough flu vaccine to cover about 55% of residents.
(Not counting private healthcare purchases)
·    Health officials are advising Alaskans to get a flu shot in September or October.

Quotes:

"This year, with COVID-19, getting vaccinated for the flu is more important than ever. A 2018 study showed that from 2012 to 2015, flu vaccination among adults reduced the risk of being admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) with flu by 82%. That protects you, your family and those around you. If a bad flu season coincides with a spike in COVID-19 cases, flu vaccinations are one way we can help to prevent our limited health care system from becoming overwhelmed." - Anne Zink, Alaska's Chief Medical Officer.

“I get the flu vaccine every year, and see how it saves lives,” Zink said. “I plan to do the same with a COVID vaccine based on the data I see so far.” - Anne Zink, Alaska's Chief Medical Officer.
