As of Friday, Texas surpassed its 2016 total number of votes cast and is on track for a record-breaking turnout this election. Florida is at 90.8 percent of its total turnout so far in votes cast this year compared to 2016. North Carolina is at 95.0 percent and Arizona is at 86.5 percent.

These numbers are inspiring and historic representations of our democracy in action. But they’re not enough to give us pause for comfort or celebration. We must keep our foot on the gas pedal. Our work is not done until Democrats have won back power in key Republican-controlled state legislative chambers before the 2021 decennial redistricting process.
