Politicians can’t seem to agree on anything these days. But there is one issue where they are able to find common ground: the people of Tibet should be free of oppression.

Republicans, Democrats, office holders and candidates are all supportive of the Tibetan cause. You have helped forge that rare bipartisan consensus through your involvement in the International Campaign for Tibet.

And although this is encouraging, we cannot be complacent, as there’s no guarantee that Tibet will remain a top priority. That’s why I’m asking you to please make an urgently needed contribution to ICT.

Thanks to your compassion and generosity, we continue making progress on key pro-Tibet priorities:

• The Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act you helped get signed into law is now being enforced as the State Department denies visas to Chinese officials responsible for keeping Tibetans locked in, and Americans locked out of, Tibet.
• The Tibetan Policy and Support Act, which includes a provision rejecting the Chinese government’s scheme to appoint the next Dalai Lama, passed the House of Representatives earlier this year with overwhelming bipartisan support.
• ICT’s Tibet 2020 initiative has been a great success, with thousands of people across the political spectrum calling on both presidential candidates to make saving Tibet a priority.

You made all of these successes, and many others, possible. And they all need to be built upon over the final weeks of 2020. With so many pressing issues competing for our national attention, your support is critical to making sure the people of Tibet are not forgotten.

I can’t thank you enough for making the Tibetan cause a personal priority—and for ensuring that our country’s leaders care about Tibet just as much as you do. Please stand with us again today.
