As November 3 approaches, Trump, Republican officials, and the far-right are only escalating their efforts at racist voter intimidation, anti-democratic court rulings, and threats of sabotage. The Democratic Party refuses to commit to any fight-back beyond legal challenges, a strategy that failed in 2000, that failed in Georgia and Florida in 2018, and that will fail again in 2020.
Seattle DSA along with 350 Seattle Action, Transit Riders Union, Kshama Sawant, United Auto Workers 4121, Socialist Alternative, Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity, Freedom Socialist Party and other local groups are coming together this Sunday, November 1 for a public action assembly to discuss how we will fight back and defend people’s votes.

We can be sure that if Trump does threaten the election results, there will be strong pressure from establishment liberal groups to dampen our response. That’s why it’s critical the left comes together before the elections to build a united front together. To defend workers’ votes we may need to be prepared to take strike action, engage in peaceful civil disobedience, and put politicians on the spot.
And this is only the beginning. Whether Trump or Biden wins, we need to be prepared to fight with all our might to demand an end to the electoral college, gerrymandering, and this two-party system and to fight for a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and an end to state-sponsored violence and incarceration.
