Dear Members and Associates,
Although we do not expect violence or election disruption to take place in Duluth this November, the President's inflammatory rhetoric and calls for voter intimidation by the far-right force us to acknowledge that 2020 may again defy expectation. In order to prepare for that possibility and support voters while they wait at the polls, we would like those of us who are voting in person on election day to watch for long wait times or attempts at intimidation, focusing primarily on the hours from 5 to 8 pm. In the event that turnout exceeds what Duluth's polling places can readily accommodate, volunteers can be dispatched to provide masks, water, or other material support as needed. If you would like to volunteer or offer support in this effort, text or email Tom at 320-761-1799 or [email protected].
Also on Tuesday evening 11/3 we plan to gather at the CJMM to support the (weekly) protesting youth. They have experienced some recent Trump-supporter intimidation, we want to show up and express solidarity with them. TIME TO BE DETERMINED, we are waiting for the youth organizers to finalize this decision. Please keep an eye out for notifications!
WEDNESDAY 11/4/2020. The TPDSA chapter has joined with community groups to organize a vigil/rally at the corners of Lake and Superior from 5-6pm. We have announced this event via Protect the Results (national map) and expect a nice turn-out. Join us on Wednesday: bring signs, MASKS, and expect to social distance. The slogans of the event are 'Count every vote', 'Defend democracy', 'Protect the Results', etc. If you can attend and have marshaling experience, please let us know in advance. Much appreciated.
As the vote counting process rolls out we anticipate the need to do this type of gathering daily. Again, keep an eye out for notifications.
In Solidarity,
Lydia, Tom, and Angel
