Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good morning,

This week, I was in Arizona where I had another busy week! I attended a virtual townhall with the Association of Mature American Citizens about the work I'm doing to make Social Security more sustainable and provide Americans with access to better, more affordable health care plans. I talked with Mesa Air Group about the letter I led to the U.S. Treasury Department requesting that the Treasury give full and fair consideration to Mesa Air’s request for a reevaluation of their COVID-19 relief loan application. I also attended Concerned Women for America’s bus tour stop celebrating the confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. I finished up the week with the Mountain West Credit Union Association to discuss how the Space Force Command Headquarters should come to Arizona, the importance PPP loan forgiveness for small businesses, and how Democrats’ policies of overregulation would harm our economic recovery.

Legislative Update

I am proud to cosponsor Representatives Brett Guthrie and Greg Walden’s legislation, the Beat CHINA for 5G Act, to open more mid-band spectrum for commercial use. As we increasingly rely on wireless devices and the internet, especially during the pandemic, this bill is an important step to close the digital divide and improve connectivity across our communities. This legislation is also an essential step in ensuring the U.S. continues to be a leader in modern technology and wins the technological race against China.

Encouraging Stories

I loved seeing this story about how some members of the security team at the new Goodyear UPS warehouse delivered some delicious cookies to the Goodyear Police Department! Thank you to the UPS team for your generosity! It is so important to support our law enforcement officers who bravely serve our community!

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office because his new job was requiring him to travel to Austria, but his passport had expired. He had applied for a new passport, but had heard nothing about his application. Our office reached out to the State Department and inquired about the status of the passport and mentioned that it needed to be expedited due to employment needs. The State Department expedited the request, and the constituent received his passport and was able to book his travel for his work.

Coronavirus Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office because she was having issues receiving her unemployment benefits. We sent her information to our contact at the Department of Economic Security (DES), and they were able to release her benefits. However, when she received her check, the number and written amounts didn’t match, so she wasn’t able to deposit the check. She was unable to connect with anyone at DES, so she contacted us once more. We were able to help facilitate her receiving a new corrected check.
