Friend, I know it's Saturday, but we're getting reports from our facilities that the demand for homeless services is spiking. We need more friends to help with current local needs—hot meals, shelter, and other critical support. You are a valued friend of VOA, so I'm reaching out now. These holidays are really going to be hard for many families.
I hope you can spare some time to respond before closing this email. I promise you that as a time-honored community-based mission, your donated dollars to VOA will go to work helping people in desperate need to get back on their feet. Thank you, again, for all you do. —Mike King

Subject: it's different this year
Dear Friend,
Holiday gatherings may look different, but it doesn't have to change their true focus of love and gratitude. We are deeply grateful for you! You’ve made critical work possible this year to meet urgent needs in your community.
Eight-year-old Beau and his mom Laurie weren’t always homeless, but their lives unraveled when Laurie lost her salon job after it closed from Covid-19 impacts. Her prolonged unemployment moved to hungry nights, and then to homelessness.
“This all just seems so unreal,” she says. “Time loses meaning and you’re just reacting to one bad thing after the next.”
Thanks to partners like you, VOA staff helped Laurie and Beau, who now have a roof over their heads, and Laurie is getting help finding work. Your gift offers real solutions and newfound hope for people like Laurie and Beau.
I don’t normally write this, but the number of families we're responding to has risen steeply from pandemic impacts—like lost jobs, evictions and other struggles.
Please open your heart to provide help and hope. Give as generously as you can this holiday. Just $75 can help provide hot meals and a safe place to rest a family’s heads in the upcoming holidays.
We are connected as a community. And your gift to VOA will go far for your hurting neighbors this holiday season, towards emergency support for families who desperately need it during Covid-19.
With sincere gratitude for you this Thanksgiving and always,
Mike King President and CEO
P.S. Covid-19 may change how we celebrate holidays, but not our holiday's focus: Gratitude and Love. Your caring gift will go far for seniors, families and children in crisis. Thank you for what you can give!
