A story appearing in The New York Times featured our report's guidance to lawmakers and local governments to respond to the threat of armed intimidation at the polls. And coverage in the Wisconsin Examiner, Pennsylvania's Pocono Record, The Virginian-Pilot, and on Fox 17 West Michigan shared the report's recommendations to help safeguard the election in four crucial swing states highlighted in the report.

CSGV/EFSGV's Executive Director Josh Horwitz was featured in pieces in The Guardian, HuffPost and NPR All Things Considered, focused on the threats of rising insurrectionism and voter intimidation.

In addition, CSGV team members and affiliated expert partners authored commentary pieces in news outlets including the New York Daily News, the Columbus Dispatch, the San Francisco Chronicle and The Washington Post.

This valuable coverage helps disseminate life-saving gun violence prevention solutions and amplify our advocacy to prevent gun violence across the nation!

Microstamping Online Event

To increase understanding of California's new microstamping law and to push for the adoption of similar laws in states nationwide, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence co-hosted an online briefing on Monday, October 5. CSGV Executive Director Josh Horwitz moderated the panel.

California's new law provides law enforcement with the tools to quickly link cartridge cases found at the scene of a crime to a specific firearm. This enables police to trace a gun without ever physically recovering it. A traced firearm is a valuable lead in a criminal investigation, because investigators can then connect that weapon to its first purchaser, who may provide information helpful to the investigation as well as help identify firearm trafficking channels.

Gov. Newsom signed the bill into law on September 29 after it passed the California State Senate on August 28.

Extreme Risk Protection Order Report Release and Panel

Drawing on lessons from across the country, the Consortium for Risk-Based Firearm Policy released a new report including a detailed set of recommendations to improve and enhance the effectiveness of extreme risk protection orders, or ERPOs, a policy developed by the Consortium in 2013.

To coincide with the release of the Consortium's report, the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence hosted an online conversation open to the public on Wednesday, October 28. Panelists covered the current landscape of ERPO laws, now in place in 19 states plus the District of Columbia, the report's key findings, and new recommendations for policy and implementation.

Guns in Public Report

Three million Americans carry loaded handguns in public every day. Forty-seven states allow for open carrying of guns in public places, with many states allowing individuals to carry assault rifles at protests, into state capitol buildings, and in front of polling places.

These are among the disturbing facts presented in a new report from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence demonstrating that weak public carry laws are fueling gun violence across the United States. If unchecked, the report's introduction warns, these laws will continue to act as the catalyst for political violence and insurrectionism, threatening the future of the country.

The report, released October 22, outlines the scope of public carry laws in America. The report provides guidance to U.S. policymakers to protect the country from violence and armed intimidation, emphasizing the importance of passing laws that disarm extremism by banning open carry and strengthening concealed carry laws.
