Al Gross for U.S. Senate
Imagine for a moment you're living in Fairbanks, Alaska.

It's mid-January and it's minus-50 degrees outside. It's so cold, you can take a cup of boiling water, throw it in the air, and watch the water instantly turn to ice. If your skin is exposed, you can get frostbite within 5 minutes.

John, your furnace fails in your house and you have no money for repairs.

You're forced to leave or die.

According to NBC News, Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska may face this very scenario. A boiler failure at a facility that provides all electrical power and steam heat for the base is "imminent."

And the Air Force doesn't have enough money in its budget to fix or replace the boiler because Donald Trump diverted $102 million from Alaska military construction projects to build a boondoggle of a wall on our southern border.

Last week, Dan Sullivan refused to stand up for Alaska to stop it.

If the boiler at Eielsen fails this winter, it would be devastating. Within hours, the base would be forced to evacuate and once closed, the base "would freeze and require millions of dollars of repair to return to usable conditions."

When I say Dan Sullivan doesn't put Alaska first, I mean it.

A closure or evacuation would harm our national security, our military personnel, and our economy. Eielson has more than 10,000 assigned personnel. The total payroll for active duty military and civilian employees is more than $200 million a year. In 2018, the base spent more than $250.6 million for construction, services and procurement of equipment and supplies, supporting thousands of good Alaskan jobs.

If we can't trust Sullivan to fight for the people who serve and depend on Eielson Air Force Base, how can we trust him to keep everyday Alaskans out of the cold?

I'll always fight for you and your family. Tell Dan Sullivan to stand with Alaskans for a change and demand that Donald Trump restore the $102 million allocated for military construction projects in Alaska.

Thank you,

Dr. Al Gross
