Dear Friend,
I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. As cases of COVID-19 are sparking all across the country, and in our region as well, I wanted to share some guidance and resources to help. With Halloween and Día de los Muertos this weekend, and the holiday season approaching, it is important to plan ahead on how to limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep yourself, your family, and our community safe.
HOLIDAY SAFETY GUIDANCE
Each of us has a part to play in stopping the spread of coronavirus and ending this crisis as soon as possible. For Halloween, door-to-door trick-or-treating is not recommended because it can be very difficult to maintain proper social distancing on porches and at front doors, and because sharing food is risky. “Trunk-or-treating,” where children go from car-to-car instead of door-to-door to receive treats, is also not recommended since it is difficult to avoid crowding and sharing food.
The fewer people you and your household have in-person contact with, the lower your risk of being exposed to COVID-19. If your family decides to interact with one or two other families, the safest way to do so is by having your gathering outside, with everyone wearing face coverings and staying at least six feet apart from non-household members. For more information on how to safely celebrate Halloween and Día de los Muertos, please see guidance from the LA County Department of Public Health HERE.
And for the upcoming holidays, staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others, but if you must travel, it is important to be informed of the risks involved. Please visit the CDC's website HERE to get information on your travel risk.
