This week, seven Conservative MPs voted against our Liberal government’s bill to ban anti-LGBTQ2 conversion therapy in Canada, making Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives the only party that hasn’t unanimously supported this bill:
Friend, Erin O’Toole says he wants more Canadians to ‘see a Conservative when they look in the mirror.’
But when Canadians look at Parliament, they keep seeing Conservatives voting against their fundamental human rights.
This week, seven Conservative MPs voted against our Liberal government’s bill to ban anti-LGBTQ2 conversion therapy in Canada, making Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives the only party that hasn’t unanimously supported this bill:
MP Ted Falk, Provencher
MP Derek Sloan, Hastings-Lennox and Addington
MP Jeremy Patzer, Cypress Hills—Grasslands
MP Bob Zimmer, Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies
MP Arnold Viersen, Peace River-Westlock
MP Tom Kmiec, Calgary Shephard
MP Damien Kurek, Battle River—Crowfoot
Other Conservative MPs, like Andrew Scheer, simply chose to not even vote.
Friend, Justin Trudeau and our Liberal government have been clear that there is no place for the destructive, harmful, and deadly practice of anti-LGBTQ2 conversion therapy in Canada. We believe that every Canadian has the right to be themselves, and to love whom they choose.
That’s why we’re moving forward to make Canada’s laws against conversion therapy among the most progressive and comprehensive in the world. This same week, Erin O’Toole joined 78 Conservative MPs who also voted against the government’s legislation on medical assistance in dying – another example of how he is standing up only for the social conservatives on his team instead of standing up for the rights of all Canadians.
We will always protect and support Canadians’ human rights, friend – but especially in a minority Parliament, we know that we can never take our progress for granted.
If you’re able, please chip in today before our end-of-October fundraising deadline to support Justin Trudeau and our Liberal team’s work to keep Canada moving forward.
