Hi there,

Prof. Hadar Aviram, the Thomas Miller Professor at UC Hastings College of the Law, is one of the leading voices against mass incarceration. She is also a mother with a young child and has studied some of the most violent people in history. She is uniquely situated, therefore, to help us balance the concerns about over-policing and public safety that face our community today.

Hadar is not just a supporter of mine. She’s a friend. Even though we talk about her academic work, there’s a personal touch. And part of what I learned, after talking to Hadar, is that effective efforts to reform policing won’t happen from “inside the system.” It’ll take a grassroots movement to create this lasting change.

I’m grateful to have Hadar as a supporter in our efforts. But it’s just as important to note that the reforms she discusses in this conversation – radical transparency and accountability – are only possible with the power of ordinary people.

That’s why I’m so excited to have your support as we approach Election Day. Our internal numbers are showing a tight race, but we’re confident we can win. But to do that, we need your help.

Can you share this podcast with one of your friends in Berkeley?

Best,

Wayne
