A Conversation on Women, Democracy, and Peace with First Lady Rula Ghani and Mrs. Laura Bush

This week, the Atlantic Council's South Asia Center and the Bush Institute co-hosted virtual conversations with Mrs. Laura Bush and First Lady of Afghanistan Rula Ghani. The discussion focused on the current peace talks in Afghanistan, as well as gender equality, democracy, and building stability in the region.

In a recent op-ed for The Hill, Natalie Gonnella-Platts, Director of the Bush Institute's Women's Initiative, writes first ladies around the world are using the visibility of their roles to confront entrenched issues like global inequity, higher poverty, and cyclical violence.

IN THE NEWS | ‘I Can't Wait for 2020 Hindsight’

Bush Center CEO Ken Hersh opens up about his heart disease and shares his strong optimism for the United States in a new op-ed for The Dallas Morning News. In response to the challenges our country has faced in 2020, Hersh writes, “Americans are the leading risk-takers and innovators on this planet. We are unafraid to fail, with the tenacity to learn from our mistakes and the resiliency to try again.”
