ICYMI: Huge Victory! House Judiciary Committee Passes THREE Gun Safety Bills
On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee passed three lifesaving, Brady-backed gun safety bills! This is monumental progress in the movement to end gun violence. It also means we need to fight even harder to ensure Mitch McConnell and the Senate will act on these solutions. Next on our agenda is a bipartisan bill to ban assault weapons. Help us keep the momentum going! Urge representatives to support a bill to ban assault weapons!
We Put Out a Full-Page Ad Aimed at Sen. Mitch McConnell
Share on Facebook.
We teamed up with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and March for Our Lives to publish a full-page ad in Politico demanding Mitch McConnell stop blocking gun reform. Back-to-school season should be a celebratory time, not one filled with fear. NO student should have to hide under a desk in fear of a shooter, and NO teacher should have to learn how to treat bullet wounds. Send a Tweet to Mitch McConnell telling him to do his job!
Mattie Scott, President of Brady California and Brady San Francisco, attended Thursday night's Democratic presidential debate as a guest of Amy Klobuchar. Mattie's been fighting for gun reform ever since her son, George, was shot and killed in 1996.

2020, Here We Come!
We have more exciting news on the 2020 front: We’ve endorsed three new gun safety champions for the U.S. Senate! We’re proud to endorse Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN), Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM). When these gun safety champions are elected to the Senate, lethal inaction will no longer be an option. This latest slate of endorsements brings Brady to a total of 34 endorsed gun violence prevention champions, including 30 candidates for Virginia’s General Assembly. Read more about our endorsements.
New Jersey Becomes First State to Raise the Bar for the Gun Industry!
On Tuesday, Brady leaders stood beside Gov. Phil Murphy as he announced that New Jersey will stop doing business with ANY gun manufacturers or retailers that fail to follow basic public safety standards. What’s the inspiration for those standards? Brady’s Gun Dealer Code of Conduct! We created the Brady Gun Dealer Code of Conduct to establish responsible business practices for the gun industry. These standards are especially important because federal oversight of the gun industry is severely lacking. Bottom line: If the federal government won’t act, we can — and will — step in and create change ourselves. It’s in our hands. Read more about Gov. Murphy’s announcement.

Brady Quote of the Week
"[Fifteen years ago] on September 13, 2004, Congress let the assault weapons ban expire. We know what’s happened since — Odessa, Dayton, El Paso, Gilroy, Parkland, Aurora, Orlando, Las Vegas, Sandy Hook, Sutherland Springs, and so many more. The solution is clear: #BanAssaultWeapons!
