With election day around the corner, LGBTQ candidates can make history...

RAINBOW WAVE

It’s hard to believe, but the 2020 Election is almost here. LGBTQ candidates everywhere are making their final case to voters. Here is the latest from the campaign trail!

In case you missed the headlines: a record-breaking number of LGBTQ candidates are running for public office this year.

With all those candidates, it might be hard to know which stories to follow on Election Night. Here are eight stories we’ll be tracking – as well as our 311 endorsed candidates!

Right now, there are too few openly trans people holding public office. But this year, 21 trans candidates are running to expand the ranks and add essential representation. Learn about their races here!

Marko Liias, running for Washington Lt. Governor, is thanking supporters on his Twitter account. He also highlighted the phenomenal number of new voters that are casting their ballots.

Bryce Bennett is fighting to flip Montana’s Secretary of State seat – and campaigning in the snow to do it!

A special shout out: Hillary Clinton urged voters to consider Brandon Thomas’s campaign for the Tennessee state House. Brandon is currently running to make history as one of Tennessee's first openly LGBTQ state legislators.

Marque Snow, who will make history as the first Black openly LGBTQ person elected to the Nebraska state legislature, shared an important update: don’t mail your ballot! Drop it off or vote (safely!) in-person.

Or as Lorenzo Sanchez, who’s running in a must-win race in the Texas state House, recommended, vote early in-person.

Mayor Annise Parker spoke with She Should Run about the need for LGBTQ voices in government – and how LGBTQ women are leading the way. Listen to the full interviews here!

QUEERING CONGRESS

Victory Fund President & CEO Mayor Annise Parker is hosting our LGBTQ Congressional candidates on Facebook Live, taking one last dive into their races. Watch her conversations with Beth Doglio, Jon Hoadley, Gina Ortiz Jones and Georgette Gómez!

Georgette, Gina and Jon also joined Morning Joe to discuss the 2020 Rainbow Wave, the record number of LGBTQ candidates running and their plans to win. Watch their segment here!

MORE ANTI-LGBTQ ATTACKS

As Election Day gets closer, the number of transphobic and homophobic attacks increase. Read the latest from MetroWeekly.

The NRCC launched another volley of horrific ads against Gina Ortiz Jones and are peddling transphobic lies in their latest attacks. The group is predicted to spend $1.5M in Texas’s 23rd Congressional District and the race has been described as an “all-out brawl.”

During a recent debate, U.S. Congressman Fred Upton refused to endorse marriage equality, reluctantly saying he supports civil unions. Jon Hoadley, who’s taking on Upton to be the first openly LGBTQ Congressman elected in Michigan, responded.

Kyle Meraz, our candidate for the Oklahoma state House, has been receiving hate mail and death threats. Yesterday, his home was broken into.
