Exciting news:Yesterday, the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Labor, and Department of the Treasury issued the final rule delivering price transparency in health care.
Under the final rule:
“Health insurance companies will finally berequired to disclose to the public the price they pay for covered services and prescription drugs. Further, insurance companies will be required to disclose the estimated cost a patient will have to pay, prior to that patient receiving care.”
This is a major “loss” for the healthcare lobbyists, special interests, and deep-pocketed health insurance companies who have had almost complete control of our healthcare system—controlling patients’ costs and coverage—with little to no checks.
Friend,
this is a huge win for patients to get access to clear and real prices, including cost-sharing information, BEFORE they get care. With transparency comes the opportunity for a truly consumer-centric, cost-conscious, competitive healthcare marketplace.
Independent Women’s Voice has been leading the effort to deliver price transparency to our healthcare system for almost three years, and we drove thousands of public comments to bring to life why these rules were needed.
But we’re not done yet. While this is a giant step forward to ensuring that patients have access to healthcare prices upfront, this isn’t a concrete change. Any future administrations could overturn these rules if they’re not signed into law.
That’s why we need Congress to pass a bill for price transparency that codifies the Administration’s rules. And we need your help to make that happen.
