The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the last truly wild places left in the United States.

But if Donald Trump has his way, these protected lands will be leased to oil and gas companies by the end of the year. The administration just green-lit destructive drilling in ALL of the Refuge's coastal plain, a move that will destroy fragile ecosystems and threaten countless endangered species.

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment for these pristine and irreplaceable federal lands. With the administration trying to steamroll environmental science and ignoring the clear threats to endangered polar bears, we don't have much time to speak up. Every time Republicans have tried to drill in the Arctic Refuge, we've been there to stop them.

In 2005, I filibustered a previous attempt to open the Refuge to drilling. I led the fight in 2017 when Republicans sold out the Refuge in exchange for their phony tax scam. And just this week, I introduced a bill in the Senate that will restore protections to this iconic place.

But the administration knows that once drilling begins, the effects can't just be repealed. That's why they've rushed forward a sham environmental review process that ignores the clear science -- drilling will be disastrous for this ecological haven. It's why they want to hold lease sales as quickly as possible.
