Dear John,

I am on the ground talking to voters to make sure they have everything they need to vote: their ballot and the chance to vote.

I’m in this fight because everyone deserves a good job, a living wage, and affordable healthcare. Our current system is only putting people further and further behind. If we don’t change something in this election, we will see mass unemployment and poverty. People are hurting.

We must make our voices heard. I’m in this fight for my family and I need you in it too.

Will you donate right now to fund our Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts?

Before this pandemic, I had a wonderful job working in hospitality making tons of money, but I got laid off and lost my health insurance within a month. If it wasn’t for Obamacare, that I pay $60 a month for myself and my wife, I wouldn’t be insured.

I used my savings to sustain my family, but now I’m two months behind on my mortgage. I’m on forbearance, but I will still owe this money after the forbearance is over. A policy like this that leaves people like me further in debt, is not a solution, it will only create more poverty down the road.

People treat you differently when you don’t have money. I don’t feel as a father, as a man, I have any power because if you don’t have economic power in this country, a lot of people believe that you don’t matter.

The politicians in power don’t know what it’s like. I would like a politician to survive on $400 dollars of unemployment after taxes. You can’t. Our current system is so broken.

We need change and I need your help to make it happen. Will you donate $HPC right now to ensure we can fund our final few days of GOTV outreach?

My mom always says, there are two kinds of people in the world: people that talk and complain and people that get out there and do something.

I’m determined to do everything I can for my kid’s future.

One person I spoke to while canvassing said he was too busy to vote, and what that tells me is that he doesn’t think his vote matters or it’s a priority. People don’t think anything is going to change. That’s why I want to get out there and talk to people about voting.

I believe we live in the greatest country in the world. I believe we have the greatest workers in the world and we’re not lazy, despite how conservative ads paint us.

There are so few good jobs out there right now. Everyone is hiring temporary positions because they don’t know the future, and small businesses aren’t getting PPP loans. If we don’t have good jobs, we will have massive unemployment and poverty. I have multiple temporary jobs now, but what happens when those end? When the holidays are over?

The system we’re living in currently is not helping everyday people, it’s hurting us. Every time they make the decision to cut something, it’s on us.

I was laid off, but I’m still out here fighting and pushing for something that I believe in.

Will you join me in supporting Emgage’s final GOTV effort? Donate today.

Thank you for hearing my story. And if you’re eligible to vote, I hope you will do everything you can to make sure your ballot is counted and your voice is heard.

Sincerely,
Terrance Johnson
Emgage Florida Canvasser
