The Trump administration is “considering slashing millions of dollars for coronavirus relief, HIV treatment, screenings for newborns and other programs in Democratic-led cities that President Donald Trump has deemed ‘anarchist jurisdictions,’” according to POLITICO.
Trump has spent months stoking fears of lawlessness and chaos in American cities -- baselessly claiming that national protests over systemic racism are led by “Antifa thugs.” In reality, a majority of protests have been peaceful, and Trump’s Proud Boys have already been seen intimidating voters in battleground states. Unsurprisingly, Trump has no complaints there.
Now, Trump is demanding federal agencies withhold funding from Democratic cities to fit his law-and-order campaign -- and he’s already getting support. The Department of Transportation said it’s using Trump’s guidelines to review applications for a new $10 million grant program for COVID-19 safety measures.
We know that this is just Trump’s latest abuse of executive power designed to stroke his own ego. But many Americans -- especially his supporters in key states -- are buying into Trump's lawlessness narrative and supporting these extreme measures. Today, we need to know where you stand:
