In 2010, the GOP invested heavily in flipping state legislatures and ultimately gained control of 21 additional chambers, which enabled Republican legislators to gerrymander far and wide in 2011. The harsh reality is another 10 years of GOP-gerrymandered voting maps is very possible. If the GOP maintains control in key states this year, post-census redistricting in 2021 will cement another decade of conservative control: this means fewer competitive elections, more voter suppression, and a host of unpopular policies, from limiting abortion access to blocking gun safety laws.
The good news: there’s still time for our candidates to finish strong, but they need your help. Together with Swing Left, we’re supporting 157 Democrats in state legislative races in order to ensure pro-democracy legislators have a say in drawing new voting maps. Over the next four days, our candidates need help calling potential voters who could close the gap in these competitive races.
 To make calls to voters, all you need is a phone, a computer, and some free time this weekend.
Phone banking is the most effective way to encourage voters to turn out in this high-stakes election. Record-breaking turnout for early and absentee voting has been encouraging, but our candidates could still come up short if this momentum doesn’t continue.
