Dear John
Are you excited about the idea of a President of the United States who has made it her life’s work to take on powerful interests and entrenched inequality? Who is equal measures tough, compassionate, and smart? Who’s a former public school teacher, and committed to hire another as Secretary of Education? Who knows we need “big structural change” to give every kid the same chance to succeed?
If so, then I have two invitations for you:
First, Elizabeth Warren will be giving a big speech on Monday night in Washington Square Park, about how corruption in Washington has allowed the rich and powerful to grow richer and more powerful, and about what we can do together to save our democracy. RSVP here [[link removed]] and look for me at the park so we can listen together.
Second, and maybe even more important, Team Warren is hosting a “barnstorm” in Manhattan [[link removed]] on Tuesday night. This event is part training and part organizing meeting, and is a great opportunity to learn voter contact skills and learn about the campaign's strategy to build a winning movement. The community of volunteer organizers taking action and talking to voters and build a movement of support are what will make it possible for Warren to win.
Finally, if you haven’t yet, take 10 minutes to watch Elizabeth Warren’s visit with our friend Ady Barkan and his family [[link removed]] . After hearing Ady’s wife Rachael (pregnant with their second kid, one of the most poignantly hopeful things ever) talk about the maddeningly Kafka-esque hours they spend every week battling their health insurance company, it’s no wonder Senator Warren (Elizabeth, as she insists Ady call her), doubles down on her support for a single-payer system that gets rid of private health insurance to attain universal coverage, saying Medicare for All is about “a relationship that all of us have to each other.” Keep the tissues close, but I promise it’s inspiring.
With hope,
Brad
P.S. I know that the Team Warren training on Tuesday is at the same time as the important Get Organized BK fundraiser [[link removed]] , that I hope many of you are planning to attend. (I’m going to try to make it to both -- I never cease to be amazed by how much organizing work our community continues to do every week). If you decide to go the Team Warren barnstorming, and especially if you’re on my list as a result of our work together through GOBK, please consider making a donation to Get Organized BK [[link removed]] !
