John, I wrote to you a couple of months ago about Congressman Gil Cisneros, and about the imperative to ensure that he’s re-elected to Congress this November.
Today, I’m reaching back out because I have to level with you: Gil’s in a dead heat tie with his Trump Republican opponent, and it sickens me to think that the war of misleading attack ads they’ve been waging against Gil has actually been working -- especially this close to Election Day.

John, my family and I know firsthand the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform make to protect our freedom.
In 2004, our son Humayun Khan lost his life defending our country while deployed in Iraq -- where he was fighting bravely for a united America, and for a more perfect union in this country that we love so dearly. Humayun gave his life fighting for our democracy because he believed deeply in putting the country above self and defending shared our American values: integrity, equality, and progress.
Not a day goes by that I don’t miss Humayun, John -- but I vowed that my son’s sacrifice would not be in vain. And though I am reminded incessantly of the threats to American democracy that lie in plain sight, I’m also keeping my focus on November -- when we collectively have tremendous power to effect positive change for our country.
That’s why I’m personally reaching out to you again, John , to make clear that we need leaders like Gil Cisneros -- a veteran, dreamer, fighter, someone who will put country over politics.
In Congress, Gil has brought an attitude of commitment and kindness with him to work every day to pass productive legislation on behalf of his constituents and Americans everywhere. Whether he is fighting to increase access to affordable health care for all, protect DREAMers, or stand up for climate action, Gil is committed to the same fight as was my son: building a better future for America.
