John, I’m writing today to ask you for $5.

I know that’s direct, so let me explain why:

It’s been a big week for our campaign. The first early vote reports have shown that so far, Democrats are voting at a higher rate than Republicans. This is a testament to the powerful energy and momentum for change in our district.

But my opponent, Jay Obernolte, is seeing the same numbers. And because he has the means to self-fund his campaign, he was able to give himself a cash infusion of half a million dollars. It looks like all of it went directly to buying airtime for their attack ads against me. With just five days until Election Day, we can’t let undecided voters make up their minds without hearing from us.

So here’s the part where I ask:

In response to Obernolte’s attacks, we set a goal of raising $10,101 in online donations before Friday at 11:59 PM to expand our field budget. But right now, we’re running short of that goal. Will you chip in $5 or more today to help us counter the attacks and flip this district?

After over a year of campaigning, it may not seem like $5 will make a difference this close to the campaign. But it really will -- every dollar goes directly towards funding our final Get Out The Vote push.

Let’s do this, John. We’re doing our best, but we’re counting on you to help.
