Friend --
When my friend former Vermont Governor Howard Dean chaired the DNC, he insisted on a 50-state strategy where Democrats competed everywhere. This fall, Democrats are competing everywhere with a chance to win almost anywhere.
It's not only about a handful of swing states anymore. The map has expanded substantially.
In fact, in Southern states that have not gone blue in decades, Democratic Senate candidates are mounting significant challenges to Republicans.
Though experts are rating many of these races as "toss-ups," we know it's an uphill battle in states with especially entrenched voter suppression.
That's why Democratic candidates in red Southern states need our help today. They can win -- with the proper funding. And when they do win, they can inspire a pipeline of Democratic power in their states for years to come.
Will you please donate today to four Southern "toss-up" Democratic challengers: Cal Cunningham (NC), Jaime Harrison (SC), Jon Ossoff (GA), and Reverend Raphael Warnock (GA)?
Let me introduce you to these four impressive candidates (who alone could flip the entire Senate):
- Cal Cunningham (NC) is a lawyer and Army veteran who enlisted after 9/11. He has committed his life to serving his country and his community. Cal is running against Thom Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee who voted this week to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
- Jaime Harrison (SC) is a former educator, lawyer, and South Carolina's first African American chair of its state Democratic Party, running on a platform of affordable and accessible health care. He is challenging Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who pushed through Amy Coney Barrett's nomination at all costs. The New York Times is calling Harrison "the most serious challenge of [Graham's] career."
- Jon Ossoff (GA) is a media professional and investigative journalist with a background in national security. Jon very nearly won a congressional race in 2017 that markedly doubled youth turnout and almost unseated a Republican by closing the vote gap by more than 20 points. He is challenging David Perdue, who ran an antisemitic ad critical of Ossoff.
- Reverend Raphael Warnock (GA) grew up in public housing and went on to earn a Ph.D. He currently serves as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s former pulpit. He is running in a special election against the governor-appointed Senator Kelly Loeffler, a deeply conservative Trump loyalist.
The South is no longer just the domain of Republicans. All four of these Senate races are winnable by strong Democrats. But they can't do it alone.
Please donate today to Cal Cunningham (NC), Jaime Harrison (SC), Jon Ossoff (GA), and Reverend Raphael Warnock (GA), four Democrats challenging Republicans in red Southern states.
We have just five days left to do everything we can to flip the Senate. Thank you for all your help in these final days.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
