Dear ,

Life, as well as the end of life, is horrific for farmed animals. I didn’t think it could get any worse for them. Sadly, I was wrong. In recent years, the USDA has pushed for the expansion of a program that allows for animals to be slaughtered at dangerously high speeds, putting workers and animals alike at greater risk.

Initially, the legal limit on pig kill lines was 1,106 animals per hour. Now, there is no limit. In the poultry industry, the limit has been raised from 140 birds per minute to 175. The result of this reckless, dangerous speed is that animals suffer even more than they have before. They need us more than ever -- will you join us in standing up for them? Animal Outlook has gone undercover into two high-speed slaughterhouses operating under this reckless program, and the footage obtained is nothing short of appalling. Due to the increased slaughter speeds workers now face increased pressure to meet targets, and the animals, the workers and the health of consumers suffer for it.

Our undercover investigators have witnessed pigs being beaten, shocked and even stunned improperly so they are not ensured to be unconscious before being put into tanks of scalding hot water. Others, unable to walk, are dragged to their deaths. In a chicken slaughterhouse, workers were seen punching, shoving and throwing birds down the fast-paced kill line. Other birds slowly drowned in electrified stunning baths during equipment breakdowns. Our investigator also documented birds with blood seen under their skin—evidence that they were scalded alive.

Your help is needed to hold animal abusers accountable. ([link removed][UNIQID]) We need to not only expose the suffering of these animals, but we also need to challenge the USDA for allowing programs like this to be introduced.

Stopping them is only possible with your support: Please make a quick, tax-deductible donation to Animal Outlook today. ([link removed][UNIQID]) Every dollar goes toward our trailblazing work for farmed animals, and no amount is too small. And now through the end of the year, your donations will be doubled thanks to the generous support of five donors who established a matching campaign as part of our 25th anniversary celebration.

Thank you for standing strong for compassion.

With gratitude,

Cheryl Leahy
Executive Vice President, Animal Outlook
