Nottingham City Council understands the ongoing and cumulative impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on you as a member of our business community.

Following the local announcement that Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have been placed in Very High Alert or Tier 3 restrictions, we continue to prioritise our collective response to COVID-19.

The Nottingham Economic Recovery Unit (NERU) is here to provide you with the latest information and local business support, through this newsletter and on the Nottingham City Council NERU webpage. We will continue to have an increased number of staff working with NERU and are working hard to support you during these uncertain times.

Business Grants Update

We know that following last week's announcement Tier 2 and yesterday's Tier 3 announcement local authorities like Nottingham City Council will be provided with additional funding to support businesses.?

We are working as quickly as possible to finalise the details of the financial package of support for businesses, further support for other businesses outside the established schemes and other Government schemes to benefit local businesses. We will update you via this bulletin and via our NERU webpage when more details are available to us.

Businesses required to close under local restrictions as of 0001 on Friday 30th October are:

  • pubs, bars, caf?s and hospitality venues not serving substantial meals or a takeaway service
  • soft play venues
  • sports facilities (subject to exemptions for elite sport, activities for children and disability sport)
  • casinos
  • adult gaming centres
  • betting shops, car boot sales and auction houses (excluding livestock and agricultural auctions)
  • indoor entertainment and tourist venues, except for ice-skating rinks, cinemas, concert halls, sports stadia and theatres.
  • saunas and steam rooms
  • personal care settings such as tattoo parlours, tanning and nail salons, piercing services, non-medical acupuncture and cosmetic procedures, and those businesses providing in home personal care services as above

These businesses will be eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant, providing grant payments to businesses forced to close because of Very High Alert restrictions in line with the rateable value of your premises.

If you meet the criteria for the Local Restrictions Support Grant you will be able to apply shortly. The application process is not open yet ? please do not contact us asking about grants as this will hinder our efforts to set the processes up. A separate bulletin will follow when these details and an application process have been confirmed.

Businesses required to close under national restrictions are:

  • nightclubs
  • sexual entertainment venues and hostess bars

The number of businesses closing is to allow Nottingham and Nottinghamshire?s to reduce the rates of COVID infection to protect our NHS, which is currently seeing increasing cases in hospitals.

We know from the Chancellor's?announcement by that Local Authorities will receive a funding amount that will be the equivalent of:

  • For properties with a rateable value of ?15,000 or under, grants of ?1,554 every 4 weeks under Tier 3 restrictions
  • For properties with a rateable value of between ?15,000 - ?51,000, grants of ?2,000 every 4 weeks under Tier 3 restrictions
  • For properties with a rateable value of ?51,000, grants of ?3,000 every 4 weeks under Tier 3 restrictions
  • Additional support will be provided for businesses whose business was affected by High Alert, or Tier 2? restrictions. This is equivalent to 70% of the grant amounts above given to partially affected businesses.

Nottingham City Council will have a small amount of additional funding to support businesses.

More details around this will be publicised once the City Council has clarity on the funding available from the government and has the relevant systems in place, which we are working hard on having as soon as possible.
