Friend: You may remember the lawsuit we had to file with Muslim Advocates and co-counsel because Stafford County, Virginia is blocking us from building a cemetery for Muslims. Well, tonight there might be a breakthrough. The Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission will vote on whether to effectively repeal two laws, which would pave the way for us to finally have a place to mourn and bury our dead during these turbulent times. My email from earlier this year (below) gives some more context. We’ll let you know how it goes.
Sincerely,

Dear Friend,
It’s hard enough to lose someone you love. Imagine not knowing where you can bury them.
For decades we have worked to ensure this would not be an issue for the Muslim community, until now.
I am a board member of the All Muslim Association of America Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides low-cost burial and funeral services to Muslims in Virginia, especially for people without close family in the area or financial means. Our all-volunteer organization established a small cemetery in 1991 in Stafford County, Virginia, but we are running out of space and need to build another. We purchased a second property, but Stafford County’s Board of Supervisors took extraordinary steps to overhaul its cemetery ordinance to prevent us from building it — just because we serve Muslims.
Muslims deserve to bury our dead, like every other faith community.
We just want to serve our community. Right now, that means fighting for our religious freedom. Muslim Advocates is helping us do that. Today, we are filing a lawsuit against the Stafford County Board of Supervisors and Stafford County for blocking us from using our own property to help people in their greatest time of sorrow.
Muslim Advocates and our co-counsel are vindicating our right to bury our deceased community members with dignity. Neither Muslims, nor any other faith group, should be blocked from mourning or burying our deceased according to their religious beliefs.
Our attorneys have been working on our case night and day — will you make a gift to ensure that Muslim Advocates can continue to fight on behalf of organizations like ours? [[link removed]]
I never expected our humble organization would face these barriers, or need this kind of help. Thankfully, we could turn to Muslim Advocates, who listened to our story and is fighting for our rights. With their support and yours, we hope, God willing, we will be able to continue our mission of serving our community.
