ISRA Thursday Bulletin - October 29, 2020

Executive Directors Message

Richard Pearson

In approximately 100 hours Election Day will be here. President Trump has been barnstorming in the critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Arizona and Michigan. For gun owners it is all on the line. If Joe Biden wins, which it looks like he just might, gun owners are in for a fight for their lives. If President Trump wins, we will see the anti-gun emphasis swing
back to the states. In Illinois that is nothing new. Go vote.

Violence has been promised by some after the election, no matter which way the vote goes. There are those who still think the police will protect them. Some of you know the answer but there are many who don’t. This pamphlet, Will the Police
Protect You?

The ISRA was very proud to host the Drew Cup on Saturday, October 17, 2020. The Drew Cup is an international match between the best youth shooters in the United States and Great Britain. We fire our portion of the match here and they fire their portion in Great Britain. The match went very well until the wind stared gusting; that is a chance you take. We haven’t received word on their
scores yet so we don’t know who won. It may be awhile.

Firearm sales are very high. While the end of the month is not yet here, the reports I get from here and there, which are no means scientific, people are buying everything they can. The same is true for ammunition.

On Monday night, the Senate confirmed Amy Coney Barrett as a new Associate Justice with a 52 - 48 vote. Of course, Democrat Senators like Richard Blumenthal and Elizabeth Warren are screaming like banshees but, the fact is, the process was perfectly legal.

The headlines read that conservatives control the Supreme Court by a 6-3 margin. That really isn’t quite true because Justice Roberts is not always conservative. Things look better in the near future. The problem is that if the Biden- Harris ticket wins, I am sure they will make every effort to pack the Supreme Court. Since 1869, the Court has been set at nine justices. The Judiciary
Act of 1869, sometimes called the Circuit Judges Act of 1869, a United States statute, provided that the Supreme Court of the United States would consist of the chief justice of the United States and eight associate justices. The Democrat’s goal would be to raise that number to 13 or even 15 justices. It doesn’t matter to them that the Supreme Court would lose all credibility because they are looking for an activist Supreme Court that would be a rubber stamp for left wing
ideas.

Tidbits:

October, 29, 1929 - Black Tuesday. The stock market crashes and the United States and the World slips into the Great Depression. Despite all the government programs to save the economy, the United States does not recover until the greatest calamity in history, WWII.

October 31, 1775 - King George III speaks negatively about the leader of the American Revolution. When he did so, he admitted the war was going badly for England. It was much worse for the King a few years later.

November 2, 1948 - Harry S. Truman defeats Thomas Dewey (of New York) for President. Dewey was expected to handily win but it didn’t turn out that way. Truman won by 2,000,000 votes. The Chicago Tribune was so confident, they announced Dewey had won and put the paper out early to scoop everyone else. It was one of the biggest egg on your face moments in history.

November 2, 1777 - John Paul Jones sets sail from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on the first mission of its kind in the revolutionary war. That was to raid the English coast, which he did. Wouldn’t it have been fun to be a mouse in Parliament the next day.
