THIS MONTH AT

The internet has a lot to say about child trafficking right now... and it can get confusing. So Love146 took two decades of experience working specifically to prevent child trafficking and journey with survivors, and we put together a free web series to make sure that you get accurate info to understand and help end child trafficking. At these sessions, you’ll get insight for parents, activists, and everyday people about red flags, common misconceptions, vulnerable populations, tactics traffickers use, and how you can address the issue of child trafficking. The second session is today at 2EST / 11PST!

Freedom Needs Truth is a coalition of organizations, including the Love146, dedicated to fighting human trafficking, who are warning about the dangers posed by QAnon conspiracy theories. On October 21, 2020, Freedom Needs Truth posted an open letter to Candidates, the Media, Political Parties, and Policymakers. We are one of more than 100 anti-trafficking organizations who have signed this letter. The message of the letter is clear: You don’t score political points on the backs of human trafficking survivors, and you don’t lie about human trafficking to scare voters. We are in this together.

This fall in the midst of a bitterly contentious election, we find real hope in the reality that efforts to end child trafficking are bipartisan. Politically motivated conspiracy theories are harmful to our work. On October 28th, Love146 Founder and President, Rob Morris, was featured in this related piece from Sojourners along with other movement leaders from International Justice Mission, ECPAT and Polaris.

This year, we’re partnering again with Dressember in their work fighting against human trafficking. In recent years, the investment from Dressember advocates has been critical for our Survivor Care in the Philippines. The campaign is simple: you can be a part of this impact by pledging to wear a dress or tie every day in December. Join thousands of advocates around the world for this style challenge as we take a stand against trafficking together.

On November 10th, Love146 & International Justice Mission will join Dressember for a webinar about Online Exploitation and Covid.

Do you laugh a whole lot? We currently have 3 open positions, in both Connecticut and Georgia. Many assume that ending child trafficking just requires us — as individuals — to care enough. But that alone won't do it. We also need systems and policies to change. Does that mean systems and policies are trafficking children? No. But it means that if they're working right, they can stop and prevent trafficking. Ending child trafficking will require challenging society's response. This is driven by both individual action and system change. Love146 is a part of the federal government’s National Advisory Committee (NAC) on the Sex Trafficking of Children and Youth in the United States. Recently,
the NAC published a major report containing 127 best practices & recommendations for all 50 states in ending child sex trafficking.

Recently, our CT Survivor Care Director, Tamarra Clark, had a great conversation with Hartford’s FOX61 news. Tamarra spoke with FOX61’s segment, Family First, and spoke about the prevalence of trafficking, online exploitation, and the pandemic. As Tamarra shares, “It scares people to know that it’s in your neighborhood… For the most part what we see is youth are groomed online.” Along with the rest of us at Love146, and so many of you who are journeying with us, Tamarra has hope. “We call it defiant hope…” she said. “If we all are so outraged that we get involved, together we can end child trafficking.”

This October, a generous donor offered to match donations up to $10,000. As we got close to meeting our $10,000 goal last week, another donor extended the match by another $6,000. We’re thrilled to say that yesterday, we hit the combined $16,000 mark, which is doubled by the matching donors for $32,000 raised! As we write this, our team is out working to reach children who need support and are recovering from child trafficking. Your generosity and creativity make that possible.
