This week, we’re bringing you the "top 5 charts" that reflect the state of our economy. So far, we have focused on the tremendous success Social Security has had in reducing poverty, the millions of people who continue to struggle to make ends meet during this terrible pandemic, and the dire need to increase the federal minimum wage.

Today, we are taking a look at this chart ([link removed]) which shows the extent women, particularly Black and Latina women, have suffered in the coronavirus labor market.

Because of the types of jobs women have had―including disproportionate caregiving responsibilities―women have been more likely to lose their jobs when the economy shut down this past spring as a result of the pandemic.

As of last month, Black and Latina women workers were still facing a dramatic shortfall in employment compared to the pre-pandemic economy.
